about calendula

Its always a good time to talk about Calendula. I am providing some material that reviews the ways I use Calendulas benefits.  For further information about its many uses I will provide a link from my source.

From a nifty site called Organicfacts.net

"One of the best reasons to keep calendula handy is due to its healing abilities. If you apply this flower oil to your cuts, scrapes, bruises, and insect bites, you can quickly [3] speed the healing process, partially due to its anti-inflammatory properties, in addition to the unique antioxidant compounds found in this miraculous plant. By protecting against infections, it keeps wounds and scrapes safe, allowing them to heal rapidly."

Even Readers Digest Is In On This

I don't know how I feel about this animal testing bit, but here is an excerpt from their site

" The dried petals—the parts used—contain high levels of flavonoids, including lutein and beta carotene, which are antioxidants that help protect against infection and cell damage caused by free radicals. Laboratory and animal research has shown that calendula flower components have a marked anti-inflammatory and antibacterial action, and heal wounds by helping new blood vessels and new tissue to form. In patients with leg ulcers treated with either a calendula ointment or saline solution dressings, calendula helped ulcers heal much faster. French researchers rated topical calendula “highly effective” for preventing dermatitis in women who had received radiation therapy for breast cancer."
